I have had the good fortune to be an Educational Counselor for over 25 years working in the Offices of Admissions, Educational Opportunity Programs, Career Centers, Cal SOAP, General Counseling, Academic Advising, and Residential Life. My employers have been Hoover High School, Mission Bay High, Humboldt State University, University of California, Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and Cabrillo College. I have served as the Director of Counseling at Cabrillo College and as the Santa Cruz County Career Technical Education Director.
I received my BA from the University of California, San Diego and my MA from San Jose State. I am a member of the counseling faculty at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California. My specialty is Career Counseling and Assessment. I teach the Practicum in Lifespan and Career Development (EDCO 267) and Lifespan Development Theory (EDCO 268) for Counselor Education at SJSU, counseling and guidance courses (CG 54, CG 51, and CG 1) for undergraduates at Cabrillo College. I also serve as the Santa Cruz County PPS supervisor for counseling interns (EDCO 292).
I am an avid husband, gardener, and fisherman. I believe career development to be an integral process in human development and success. Educators who understand and incorporate career development in their practice and instruction are of greater value to their clients and colleagues.
On summer furloughs, my wife and I participate in the commercial salmon troll fishery in Southeast Alaska, west of Prince of Wales Island (the third largest island in the US), aboard our 8 meter, double ended troller, the FV ITSURO. We harvest the highest quality, line caught, wild, sustainable King and Coho Alaskan Salmon.
